When is the next municipal election?

    The next municipal and school board election in Ontario is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.

    What are we voting for?

    Voters will elect representatives for the following offices:

    • Mayor
    • City Councillors
    • Regional Councillors
    • School Board Trustees

    Who can vote in a municipal election?

    You are eligible to vote if, on election day, you are:

    • A Canadian citizen
    • At least 18 years old
    • A resident of the City of St. Catharines, or
    • A non-resident who owns or rents property in the city
    • Not prohibited by law from voting

    How do I make sure I’m on the voters’ list?

    You can check and update your information on the Elections Ontario website

    Closer to the election, the City will also provide information on how to confirm or correct your registration details.

    What voting methods will be available in 2026?

    Voting methods for the 2026 election are currently under review. Options being considered include:

    • In-person voting at polling stations
    • Online voting
    • Vote-by-mail

    What is advance voting?

    Advance voting gives you the opportunity to vote before election day at select polling locations. It’s ideal if you’ll be away, have a busy schedule, or want to avoid election day crowds.

    Can I vote if I own property in St. Catharines but live elsewhere?

    Yes. If you own or rent property in St. Catharines but live in another municipality, you can vote here. However, you may only vote once for each office — either where you live or where you own property.

    Can I work for the election?

    Yes. The City of St. Catharines will be hiring election workers to help administer voting. Details on positions and applications will be posted closer to the election.
