What's happening?

The City is currently reviewing a portion of its Sign By-law related to certain types of Electronic signage and Third-party advertising.

What is Electronic signage?

For the purpose of this review and survey, Electronic signage refers to illuminated signs with a display that can change as a fixed frame. This includes signs where messages may be fixed or rotating, and where the lighting and display can vary in brightness and colour, such as LED signs. It does not include signs that only display time, temperature, or price; and will not include scrolling or animated content.

What is Third-party advertising?

Third-party advertising is when a sign promotes a business, product, or event that is not located at the same property as the sign. The most common example may be a billboard, but could also include scenarios like a wall sign fixed to a building that advertise an off-site business, or a ground sign that promotes local events.

Why the review?

Technology is changing rapidly and changing how advertising appears in our City. This review will help ensure the Sign By-law reflects current advertising trends, and remains clear and effective. Public feedback is an important part of this process, as these regulations directly affect the community.
