Consultation has concluded

In the city’s continued spirit of working with the residents and businesses in the area affected by work on the CNR Bridge, based on feedback gathered at the public meeting held on Nov. 8, 2023, staff are seeking input on a potential change to the parking arrangement on Henrietta Street.

It was heard that residents have concerns with dual-side parking on Henrietta Street, in the vicinity of Walkinshaw Park, related to the continuous line of vehicles when there is heavy use of on-street parking along the park frontage. The primary issues heard were:

  • The impact the on-street parking has on sightlines for drivers attempting to egress from driveways on the west side of Henrietta Street, and
  • The lack of gaps for vehicles to give way to vehicles coming in the opposite direction.

In response to the feedback, the City is considering prohibiting parking on the west side of Henrietta Street along the Walkinshaw Park frontage. The remainder of the parking on the street will remain unchanged.

A diagram showing the proposed prohibition is below:

Staff note that some residents have expressed a desire to retain all the on-street parking as a form of traffic calming, which may result in lower travel speeds and potentially reduce the desirability of Henrietta Street to act as a by-pass route.

Prior to finalizing a decision, staff are requesting feedback from the directly affected residents on Henrietta Street to gauge the level of support for the proposal. Please complete the short survey below by 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 24, 2023.
