Consultation has concluded

The City of St. Catharines is in receipt of a request for traffic calming on Lockhart Drive to address concerns of excessive vehicle speeds. Traffic calming measures (i.e. speed humps / cushions) can help increase the livability of residential neighbourhoods by reducing the negative impacts of vehicular speeds and providing a more comfortable environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

City staff are proposing to install temporary speed humps / cushions. Six locations have been selected: in the vicinity of 113, 125, 155, 169, 195 and 209 Lockhart Drive. A map showing the approximate locations is attached (see below).

Prior to proceeding with the installation of temporary speed humps / cushions, City staff are conducting a survey to determine if there is sufficient support for the proposal.

As per the City’s Traffic Calming Policy, sufficient support requires at least 50 per cent of the households surveyed to respond and that the majority of those respondents be in favour. If more than 50 per cent of the households either vote that they are not in favour or do not cast a vote, no action will be taken.

If the support requirement is met, staff will proceed with the installation of temporary speed humps / cushions. These measures will be left on the road until the beginning of the winter season, at which time they will be removed.

Please give your response in the quick poll below. Feedback closes on June 6 at 4:30 p.m.
