Consultation has concluded

This year the City is planning to construct a sidewalk on the west side of Niagara Street from Maplewood Drive to the pedestrian walkway that provides access to Dundalk Court (just south of 497 Niagara Street). This sidewalk will connect to the newly constructed section of sidewalk adjacent to the townhouse development. Please see the diagram showing the location of the proposed sidewalk.

The ultimate plan is for the sidewalk to be extended along the entire west side of Niagara Street between Linwell Road and Scott Street; however, it will be coordinated with future Regional road works.

Niagara Street is classified as a Regional arterial road and carries a significant volume of traffic, which makes the provision of a dedicated space for pedestrians a noteworthy goal for the City.

The City’s Official Plan and recently approved Transportation Master Plan both promote and facilitate a “complete streets” approach in establishing a comprehensive and integrated active and vehicular transportation system, with emphasis on supporting the safe and functional movement of pedestrians. The Council approved Official Plan specifies that sidewalks shall be provided on both sides of all arterial and collector roads.

Prior to the work being undertaken, we are requesting your input on the proposal.
