Project update
During its April 12 meeting, City Council approved the Transportation Master Plan with some minor modifications, including removal of a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment that would allow for a potential roadway from Scott Street to YMCA Drive through John Page Park. The TMP will provide a roadmap for the development of new transportation infrastructure and redevelopment for decades to come, with an eye towards meeting changing transportation needs; increased active transportation; public transit use; and changing technologies.
A TMP is a long-range strategy that will ultimately guide the future of transportation within the City to support community growth. This is a new vision for transportation for St. Catharines and the TMP includes innovative ideas and recommendations which will help City staff proactively plan for the anticipated “future” of the City.
A new “complete streets” approach was taken for this plan (consistent with Niagara Region), which plans, designs and implements transportation facilities, routes and corridors for people of all ages, abilities using any given mode of transportation, whether as a pedestrian, cyclist, drivers, or rider on public transport.
Public feedback
Consultation and engagement has been a key part of the TMP process. To help confirm the TMP recommendations and next steps, we invited residents to watch the Public Input Session below, download the TMP presentation slides and give feedback via the form at the bottom of the page.
Input from the public will be used to inform potential refinements to the draft recommendations and to identify key considerations that should be addressed prior to finalizing the TMP and bringing it forward to Council for adoption in early 2021.
