Indoor Tennis at Community Park
Consultation has concluded
Background
The City of St. Catharines, Tennis Clubs of Canada (TCC), the St. Catharines Tennis Alliance, and the Merritton Lions Club, are four project partners working collaboratively on a project to install an inflated air dome over renewed tennis courts at Community Park in St. Catharines.
TCC is the proposed operator of the new facility. They have over 40 years of experience in constructing and operating indoor tennis facilities and currently operate eight others in Ontario.
Members and non-members (public access) will be offered a wide variety of diverse instructional programs and activities including round robins, house leagues, and tournaments. While the primary focus within the dome is tennis, temporary pickleball lines and nets will be considered at certain times throughout the week.
The City of St. Catharines will not be responsible for operational costs. St. Catharines Tennis Alliance will be making a financial contribution towards the project and will play an active partnership role in the operations of the facility by assisting to provide public programming.
The operating season of the dome will be over the cold months from October to April. The dome will be down for the outdoor season, from May to September.
Public Consultation
The survey below will be open to collect public input until June 8, 2023.
A Public Information Centre (PIC) is planned for May 23, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Merritton Community Centre at 7 Park Avenue in St. Catharines.
Following community consultation, a report will be sent to Council for their consideration of the project later this year. If approved, the indoor tennis dome is anticipated to be operational by the fall of 2024.
