The City is committed to improving active transportation on Arthur Street by addressing the patchwork of sidewalks that exist between Lakeshore Road and Sunset Beach. As such, additional sidewalks will be installed during the 2021 construction season.
This work will consist of creating a continuous sidewalk on the west side (odd numbered side) of the street from Lakeshore Road to the north limit. On the east side (even numbered side), the sidewalk will be extended so that it is continuous from Lakeshore Road to Cindy Drive.
All sidewalks will be installed within the City owned right-of-way (the boulevard).
Since the sidewalk on the east side of the street will discontinue at Cindy Drive, as part of this project the City will also be implementing a controlled pedestrian crossing (pedestrian crossover or all-way stop) of Arthur Street at the Cindy Drive intersection.
Arthur Street is classified as a collector road. The City’s Official Plan and upcoming Transportation Master Plan both promote and facilitate a “complete streets” approach in establishing a comprehensive and integrated active and vehicular transportation system, with emphasis on supporting the safe and functional movement of pedestrians.
Prior to the work being undertaken, we are requesting your input on the proposal.
Please review the proposed plan PDFs below and provide feedback via the survey form at the bottom of this page.
Public feedback closes Friday Feb. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
