The City of St. Catharines is planning to reconstruct Cumming Street from Pelham Road to Rykert Street and Kent Street from Pelham Road westerly to the dead end in 2021.
The existing infrastructure is nearing the end of its life expectancy. The existing combined sewers are 65 years old. A combined sewer collects both sanitary flows and storm water flows together in the same sewer. As part of this project, the combined sewers will be separated into dedicated sanitary sewers and storm sewers, which will reduce sanitary overflows into surrounding watercourses and the natural environment.
This work will consist of renewing all of the City infrastructure including removing the combined sewers and replacing them with new sanitary sewers and new storm sewers, new sanitary sewer laterals to the property line, new watermains, new water services to the property line, reconstructing the road and installing new sidewalks.
Cumming Street is on a bus route; therefore, the road pavement will be slightly thicker and concrete curb and gutters will be added.
Kent Street will retain its current roadside swales.
Construction may start as early as Spring and the construction duration will be approximately four months.
There will be some inconvenience for residents during construction and there may be times when there is limited access to driveways. The City will work with the contractor to minimize these occurrences and maintain driveway access as much as possible.
Prior to the work being undertaken, we are requesting your input on the proposal.
Please review the PDF below and provide feedback via the survey form at the bottom of this page.
