St. Catharines 150

Happy 150th, St. Catharines!
For 150 years, St. Catharines has been shaped by change, opportunity, and innovation. What began as an agricultural settlement and canal-side industrial centre has grown into a vibrant city and a cornerstone of Niagara’s development.
In 2026, St. Catharines proudly marks its 150th anniversary as a City. While our community’s roots stretch back much further, St. Catharines was officially incorporated as a City on May 1, 1876.
Throughout this milestone year, we’ll be celebrating with a series of events, activities, and community initiatives that honour our history while looking ahead to our future. From cultural programming and historical reflections to City-wide gatherings and a special 150th celebration, there will be many opportunities to participate, connect, and share in the pride of our city.
We want to celebrate with you

Happy 150th St.Catharines! I've been here for almost twenty years now. I've seen places like the YMCA, Hogan's alley, Stella's, Gord's place, Kaz's, Dispatch, the Brazen Café, and many others come and go, but I still have fond memories from all these spots. I'm looking forward to seeing this city continue to grow and develop. I'm thankful for the many groups and communities that I have been able to be a part of here, especially the corners run crew and the latin/salsa dance community. Keep up the good work!
St. Catharines holds a very special place in my heart. I was born in the Dominican Republic, but there is no other place where I feel as at home as I do in this beautiful city.
St. Catharines welcomed me, shaped me, and gave me memories I will carry for a lifetime. No matter where I go, it will always be my forever home.
Happy 150th anniversary, St. Catharines! Here’s to many more years of community, growth, and pride.
St. Catharines will always feel like home to me.
While I first came to know the city through my work in planning and urban design, what truly made it special were the people and the communities that filled my days with joy. The Fitzgerald neighbourhood, the St. Catharines Road Runners and Corners Run Crew, our mornings with the brave cold-plunging group, the beach volleyball at Port Dalhousie, and dancing salsa with incredible groups of friends, these are the memories that shaped my time here.
Additional mention to the Thursday and Sunday farmers’ markets that were a ritual for me and the near by libraries felt welcoming and beautifully organized, true community anchors. Also the Downtown’s small businesses, cafés, and familiar faces made the city feel intimate and warm.
St. Catharine's is a place where you can build a wonderful, full life, where connection comes easily and community shows up. I’m so grateful for the friendships, the movement, the laughter, and the sense of belonging I found here.
Happy 150th, St. Catharines, may the next 150 years be just as vibrant, connected, and full of heart. 💛
Congratulations, City of St Catharines, on your 150 year anniversary! I moved here five years ago and love the vibe of this city. I feel safe walking and biking here, enjoy the greenery and the smaller (than Toronto) but diverse social scene
Born and raised and probably never leaving wonderful St. Catharines! My favourite memories are the Grade and Wine Grand Parade and they continue to be today. I have the opportunity to watch my dad as a Shriner every year while sitting with my family. Remember when they would scrape the swords on the pavement?
I have so many, but the 2012-2014 In The Soil festivals were particularly noteworthy. A market fair, weird and wonderful art installations, dance and music, and even a ferris wheel on St. Paul.
Beyond that, being a member of the arts community, I really felt that we were, each of us, part of a growing and vibrant scene. The place was buzzing.
Happy Birthday St. Catharines! 150 years of community has created a great home for us to start and grow as a business! Looking forward to sharing many more special occasions with you!
💫Happy 150 years St. Catharines!💫
I arrived with hope and found belonging. In this city, new beginnings feel possible and many journeys come together to build a shared future. Grateful to call St. Catharines home—today and for the years ahead. 💞
Congratulations St. Catharines on 150 years! I was born in St. Catharines General hospital at the beginning of your 99th year! And now I help people honour their loved ones who are laid to rest in all over the region, including Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines. ❤️
Happy birthday, St. Catharines! My home for 41 years. Coming from a big city, you slowly grew on me—I learned to love your quiet streets and beautiful trails. Cheers to you!
Congratulations to the City of St. Catharines on 150 years! We’ve appreciated the opportunity to work with the City on initiatives like the installation of EV charging stations at multiple sites across the community. It’s been meaningful to contribute in a small way to a city with such a rich history and strong sense of community.

Congratulations to the City of St. Catharines on 150 years. For me, one thing that makes the city special would be the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre. This facility was built 10 years ago and it brings the community together through the arts. Arts organizations like Chorus Niagara, the Niagara Symphony Orchestra, Momentum Choir, and the Avanti Singers call this place home and many performances have taken place. 🎵
Thank you for your contribution!
